Stipendium Hungaricum — Hungary's fully funded state scholarship — is one of the most popular routes to Europe for Uzbek students, and its calendar barely moves from year to year: the portal opens in mid-November and closes in mid-January. The 2026/27 cycle closed on 15 January 2026 at 2 p.m. CET; expect the 2027/28 call to follow the same schedule.
Why start in July if it opens in November?
Because the two things that decide your application take months, not days:
- English certificate. Most Hungarian programmes ask for proof of English — many list IELTS around 5.5–6.5 depending on the programme. A test taken in September–October lands the certificate exactly in time for the application window.
- Motivation letter and documents. Transcript translations, recommendation letters and a motivation letter tailored to your two programme choices always take longer than planned — start collecting them in autumn.
How the application works
- Apply online at apply.stipendiumhungaricum.hu — you can pick up to two study programmes.
- In Uzbekistan the nomination goes through the national sending partner (follow the Ministry's announcement when the call opens).
- After nomination: university entrance exams/interviews in spring, results by summer 2027.
