Chevening — the UK government's fully funded master's scholarship — opens its 2027/28 application window in August 2026. If you are in Uzbekistan and want a one-year master's degree in the UK with tuition, living costs and flights covered, this is the application season to aim for.
The timeline that actually matters
- August 2026 — online application opens at chevening.org
- 6 October 2026, 11:00 UTC — application deadline (this is a hard cut-off; the portal closes)
- Early 2027 — interviews at the British Embassy in Tashkent for shortlisted candidates
- 8 July 2027 — deadline to hold at least one unconditional UK university offer
What to prepare in July, before it opens
The application itself is four essays: leadership, networking, why the UK, and career plan. Winners are usually the people who started drafting in summer, not the night before the deadline.
- Work experience: you need roughly two years (2,800 hours) — part-time and internships count. Add it up now.
- Shortlist three UK courses: the application asks for three master's programmes. Research them before the portal opens.
- English: Chevening itself no longer demands a test score at application stage, but your UK university offer will — most programmes want IELTS 6.5–7.0+. If your score is not there yet, you have July–December to fix it.
- Draft the four essays — 500 words each, specific examples beat big words.
